Draken is recruiting for a permanent Electronic Warfare Training Manager at the main operating base in Dhahran, KSA.

The main scope for the role includes:

  • Co-ordination and planning in Kingdom of effective, modern air and ground training programmes for the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF)
  • Management of RSAF Electronic Warfare Flying Training (EWFT) attendees during each delivery cycle
  • Training approaches, tactics and doctrine development for live airborne EW flying training (EWFT)
  • Exercise planning and delivery for EWFT
  • Control of jamming emissions planning

The EW Training Manager will be deployed into KSA by May 2022. From start date through to May 2022, whilst Draken are mobilising the EW Training Manager, Draken shall provide support from the UK using existing SMEs and train the incumbent.

As EW Training Manager your key responsibilities will include:

  • Head of Co-ordination and Planning Cell
  • Long and medium lead time deployment planning for week long detachments within Kingdom (as close as one week ahead) – mobile role. This function is likely to require one week’s travel to other customer airbases in Kingdom every 4 or 5 weeks.
  • Lead the deployment planning process engagement with Customer – plan for delivery of training materiel, role equipment, and exercise profiles etc
  • Translates/advises tasking from end user units into weekly air and ground training requirements. Feeds the weekly plan for the following week to lead crew, ops control and mission support coordinator to deliver.
  • Assists RSAF EW Centre (Riyadh) with planning annual updates to pod EW data programmes – especially threat sim settings. Requires reach back support to UK and link to Ministry of Defence Saudi Armed Forces Projects (MODSAP).
  • With support from Lead EW Operator, act as point of contact for all control of jamming/EMCON issues in Kingdom. Issues to be raised at each 6-month review at Semi-annual Planning meeting. Feedback to Lead EWO and MSC.
  • Maintain and actively promote a Safety first approach. Operate at Draken Europe in accordance with the SHE standards. Identify where the SHE Standards are applicable, generate suitable risk assessments and apply safe systems of work to appointed operations/tasks.
  • Uphold the Draken Europe Vision, Mission, Customer Promise, and Core Values and Principles.
  • Any other duties that are reasonably requested by Draken Europe management within the capability of the incumbent.

As an EW Training Manager your Skills, Qualification and Knowledge should include:

Personal Skills/Abilities –

  • Strong focus on Training delivery effectiveness through an annual and monthly programme of flying and ground training events.
  • Ability to prioritise and conduct complex training planning effectively.
  • Strong leadership skills, modifying approach as required by the situation and team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, modifying style to meet cultural expectations in Kingdom, contractual obligations set by the Prime, and business outcomes.
  • A focus on customer and consumer requirements to ensure excellence in service delivery.
  • High level of personal and professional integrity.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.

Educational and Vocational Qualifications –

  • Ex-military SO1/OF4 or higher, preferably with a background in A3/5 ops/plans OR
  • 10 to 15 Years’ experience in military or similar training delivery
  • APMP/PRINCE 2 qualified.
  • Professional training qualification and experience.
  • Joint Command and Staff College graduate desirable.


  • Experienced programme manager or training and development manager
  • Experienced business unit leader
  • Experienced team/line manager
  • Joint Central Staffs, Strategic Command or Single Service HQ staff experience
  • Suitable background experience in Training to be credible to the military customer base.
  • Previous experience of operating with commercial defence industry partners and/or operating experience in KSA or the Gulf States is desirable.
