Airworthiness Engineer


Job description

Role Purpose

The role of the Airworthiness Engineer is to provide airworthiness and technical support within the rotary wing Technical Department, ensuring the airworthiness of the rotary wing AS365 fleet achieving a high standard of performance and technical despatch reliability whilst maintaining continuing airworthiness (i.e. approved and up to date maintenance data incl. Aircraft Maintenance Programme).

Key Responsibilities

 Aviation Regulatory Responsibility

Applicable Aviation Regulation Regulators, but not limited to:

  1. EASA
  2. UK CAA
  3. UK MAA

Responsible for;

  • Ensure that approved and up to date maintenance data is available.
  • Provide comprehensive assessment all Airworthiness Directives, Service Bulletins and all other technical documentation.
  • Produce work instructions to accomplish the recommended courses of action for the technical documents assessed.
  • Assist with fleet reliability programmes and where necessary produce work instructions to support troubleshooting activities or to resolve long term reliability issues.
  • Compilation, development and optimisation of Maintenance Programmes as required
  • Liaison between all maintenance bases and the OEMs about any technical matters that arise providing specialist technical advice for resolution of complex and/or unusual aircraft technical problems and repairs.
  • Provides Airworthiness support for special projects, upgrades and modifications of aircraft.
  • Provides Airworthiness support to help reduce repair and maintenance costs.
  • Assisting with safety and technical investigations and compiling technical reports, fleet campaign directives and local maintenance instructions
  • As required, support Engine Trend Monitoring programmes required by the Company, OEM or contract.
  • Providing asset maintenance work scopes for in-house and 3rd party organisation as required
  • Manage quality audit findings, as delegated, and ensure their timely closure.
  • Monitoring high component removal rate and initiate follow up action to improve component and system reliability.
  • Adherence to Company policies and procedures.

  3. ISO 45001 – Occupational Health Management System

  • Compliance with all applicable International Standards at all times
  • Compliance with safe systems of work at all times

Business Management

  • Work with the Operator (AOC holder), Maintenance Organisations, Logistics department to ensure that good communication is developed and maintained in order to ensure aircraft are available to meet contractual requirements
  • Establish and develop working relationships with system and equipment manufacturers to ensure continued airworthiness and to improve aircraft availability and system reliability.
  • Preparation of cost benefit studies on non-mandatory service bulletins for incorporation on approval of management.

Special Conditions

  • Ad Hoc / Out-of-Hours work during urgent / unforeseen business requirements.
  • Domestic and International travel.
  • Any other reasonable duties which may be requested that falls within the scope and/or capability of the incumbent.

Core Competencies

Experience & Qualifications

  • Excellent knowledge of Rotary Wing CAMO principles and practices – Minimum of 2 years’ proven experience – Required
  • Relevant Engineering Degree or an EASA / UK CAA Part 66 B1 or B2 Licence AS365 – Advantageous
  • Theoretical and practical application level knowledge of EASA / UK CAA / UK MAA Regulations (Part M, Part 145, Part 21) – Required
  • Practical application level knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 45001 & ISO 14001 as applicable in the AMO environment – Advantageous
  • Practical application level knowledge of Safety Management System principles and requirements – Required
  • Demonstrable use and knowledge of Technical Records, Planning and Maintenance related Software Applications – Required
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Aircraft Maintenance Programmes – Required
  • 5 GCSE (O Levels) Grade C or above, or BTEC equivalent or aviation apprenticeship – Required
  • Minimum Formal Level 1 (general familiarization) maintenance training course on the AS365 – Required
  • Able to hold an SC-Level security clearance – Required

  • Demonstrates good administration and analytical skills, ability to collect, organise, synthesise, and analyse data; summarise findings, develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources internally, or with clients, customers and/or suppliers.
  • Experience of managing people in a supervisory role and actively working with HR Policies and Procedures.
  • Excellent in communicating / presenting across all boundaries, internal and external, both verbally and written.
  • Highly self-motivated, assertive, resilient with the ability to hold their own.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to achieve tight deadlines in challenging environments.
  • Excellent use MS Office Software and other Company Software as required.
  • Ability to maintain high levels of integrity, work ethic and confidentiality and use discretion appropriately

  • Maintaining compliance against all applicable Aviation Regulatory and International Standard requirements at all times.
  • Maintaining effective communication and engagement across all levels within the CAMO, AMO, Procurement & Supply Chain and rest of the Company (as required) at all times.
