The Role

The L159 Fleet Captain is the senior pilot on the L159 Fleet and reports directly to the DFO. This position is responsible for the supervision and delivery of safe flight operations across the span of L159 contracted activities.

As such they will manage the delivery of the contract and represent the company in (non-commercial) discussion with the customer.

The position is also responsible for the admin, welfare, and discipline of the line pilots at the respective base.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the principal customer point of contact at the MOB for all flight operations activities.

• Ensure that tactical operational delivery meets or exceeds customer requirements.

• Responsibility for the safe operation of the L159 as defined in the Company Operation Manuals and relevant procedures.

• Exercise the duties and responsibilities of a L159 captain and instructor pilot.

• Liaise with Draken Operations and Engineering personnel and external service providers to ensure the availability service is maintained in accordance with the contract.

• Effective control of overhead budget.

• Sponsor for Ops Manual Part B L159 and the L159 SOPs.

• Support commercial and bid activity with new and existing customers for L159 related projects.

• Comply with and support internal Flt Ops audit/CAA audit programmes and meet the statutory time to assess, comprehensively address and close out NCRs.

• Facilitate an open and honest reporting culture within the L159 fleet.

• Maintain familiarity with relevant United Kingdom and International air legislation and aviation best practices and procedures.

• Maintain a high standard of discipline, conduct and appearance as a representative of the Company.

• Maintain detailed oversight for the currency/recency requirements stipulated for those pilots under your direct control.

• Ensure that records are maintained in accordance with regulations and Company operations manuals.

• Enable a strong succession plan through recruitment of appropriately qualified individuals.

• Ensure L159 operations are conducted in accordance with the relevant SHE standards.

Experience / skills / qualifications

• Suitably qualified and experienced as Pilot a fast jet pilot.

• Suitably experienced in the management of aircrew.

• Delivery of contracted Flight Operations (Desirable).

• Hold a valid UK CPL(A) or ATPL(A).

• Hold a Class 1 medical.

• Completed AUPRT course (if required).

• Over 1000 hours on fast jet aircraft (Highly Desirable).

• Qualified Weapons Instructor or Qualified Flying Instructor. Highly Desirable.

• Completed MCC course (Desirable).

• Previous experience on aircraft involved in a warfare training role (Desirable).

• Strong focus on aviation safety and compliance.

• Ability to work well under time pressure, high information load.

• Ability to communicate and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

• High level of personal and professional integrity.

• Strong airborne leadership skills.

• Ability to work through multiple tasks concurrently, prioritising as required to achieve the task safely.

• Strong domain knowledge of customer operational requirements and customer platform capabilities.

• Flight operations in military or government aviation.

• Flight operations in the civil environment (Desirable).

• Reasonable proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Desirable).
